Witnesses - Trey Bundy
by joey jojo inwatching right now with my wife.
we are both born ins but have been out for a long time.
my wife dislikes pretty much most things about the jw's and not much surprises her about the org but even she had to take a break because she was appalled by the cover up.

Hi J.J.
Unlike myself, my wife hasn't been keeping up with anything in JW land. Because of growing up as a female JW, she has seen her share of creepy brothers, so she isn't surprised by what goes on, but she was outraged about how much the org fights to cover its a$$.

This thread is not about Covid-19
by Ultimate Axiom inevery single news item, on every single news channel, and the majority of threads on this site, for the past three weeks seem to be either directly or indirectly related to covid-19.
is nothing else happening in the world?
has putin stopped slaughtering syrian civilians?

Does make you wonder what's been going on behind the scenes while everyone is focussed on one thing.

Why wasn't the organisation directed to move to Australia or <insert alternative, less affected , first world country here> instead?
We can go for walks, the military hasn't taken over, we have natural beauty and, as of today, a total of 54 covid-19 deaths, an extremely low per capita death rate.
There are plenty of places that could have been alternatives.

Are We Living In The Last Days?
by Vanderhoven7 injust received this note out of the blue from a pimi jw.
how would you respond?.

JW's are taught that they are at the centre of world events.
They are conditioned into believing that they are alive during the most critical time in human history and because of that, are special, as only they know the outcome.
I'm sorry to say I once believed it myself. With the benefit of hindsight though, it's sad that so many are prepared to delude themselves.
The only undeniable thing that JW's have witnessed during their history, is the repeated failure of prophecies that were preached to the world as truth, oh, and also the generations of JW's who have died believing that they were the last generation.

Do you have any evidence that the GB had bad intent?
by AlainAlam indo you have any evidence that the gb had bad intent?
as opposed to blind faith/cognitive dissonance and honest mistakes.. i'm inclined to think they have the best of intentions and are just wrong (primarily because the bible is wrong), but i'm willing to consider the evidence otherwise..

Loyalty to the organisation is more important than truth or intelligence.
This is what they expect. In my mind, that defines evil intent.

I'm interested in discussing basic JW doctrines that you believe are unscriptural
by AlainAlam inbackground info: although i'm an apostate, i don't hate jehovah's witnesses, or the organization itself.
actually i find that many derogatory comments here are extremely biased.
i think most of them are amazing people, and i wish more non-witnesses were like them.

Hi A. A.
In my experience, after 20 odd years of searching for the real truth, I've found that the deeper you dig, the more crumbled the foundations of belief get.
You are talking about doctrines based on a book that has contradictions, errors and biases. Clever church leaders have used it to control people throughout the entire modern era.
Doctrines of all churches are based on speculation, faith and interpretation. Jesus himself, who is God to some people, did not even state what the official canon of the bible should be, and neither did any of his apostles.
Any discussion of doctrine is based on an assumption that the core structure is accurate.
When it comes to the bible, that assumption is based on faith, which is not the same as truth.

Legal Concerns About "Zoom" Meetings!
by Atlantis inthis whole "zoom" thing has got me wondering whether some of it is legal or not.
if a person has to dress up for a zoom meeting the way the watchtower dictates, doesn't this really go "beyond" cult?.
even the cults who committed mass suicide were able to dress the way they wanted for their meetings.

Good topic Petra,.
On another post I read something that I agree with, that is the need for wt to stay relevant in the lives of its members.
I'm sure there are a lot of members that are enjoying not being able to go preaching or attend meetings. The conference calls make sure no one forgets they are always under scrutiny and keeps the f. O. G. levels high.

When this is over...
by joey jojo inwhat will the world be like once this pandemic is over?
the world has been through this before, in the form of the bubonic plague and it left changes to life still felt today, especially in regards to the economic system.
so many people dying meant a smaller working class that meant their skills and labour was suddenly more valuable which in turn raised wages.

I was thinking that the way people do business might change a little, some might get used to using conference chats and never go back to the old way of doing business.
Virtual gyms are now a thing. No need to get in your car and travel, just log in to zoom/ GoToMeeting etc and start your work out. The instructor can see you and give you feedback. Personally I think gyms provide good, positive energy over and above the actual work-out that Im not sure virtual gyms will replace the traditional gyms, although there still might be a place for online training once things go back to normal.
Economically, I think the worst is yet to come. The share market seems to be just hanging on but as things start to bite I wouldn't be surprised if it dropped again. (Just my two cents)
Will be an interesting few months ahead.
